Eritrea’s confirmed COVID-19 cases surpass 131

ADDIS ABABA, June 18 (EI) — The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Eritrea has risen to 131 after the Red sea nation recorded 10 new COVID-19 cases, the Eritrea Ministry of Health (MoH) reported.

“Ten additional patients were diagnosed positive for COVID-19 today in tests carried out for individuals who had completed their quarantine centers at Gash Barka region,” Eritrea’s Ministry of Health said in a statement issued on late Wednesday.

Following the latest 10 new confirmed COVID-19 positive cases, the total number of confirmed cases in the Red Sea nation has now risen to 131.

Amid the rising new COVID-19 positive cases in the East African country, the ministry had also on Sunday and Monday reported additional 24 and 31 new COVID-19 cases, respectively.

The ministry further said 39 of Eritrea’s confirmed COVID-19 cases have recovered fully and have been released from hospital, while the remaining 70 are receiving the necessary medical treatment.

The ministry had previously disclosed that some 7,764 nationals have returned home to-date through irregular land and sea routes from Ethiopia, Sudan, Djibouti as well as Yemen despite the overall ban on people’s movements in the region as a whole.

Out of this aggregate number, 4,359 persons were duly released from the respective quarantine centers after completion of the rigorous process in force while 3,405 persons still remain in 47 centers throughout the country, it was noted.
