ADDIS ABABA: May 22 (Ethiopian Informer) – Ethiopia’s largest Oromia regional state on Wednesday pardoned some 7,029 prisoners who have shown remorse against their wrong-doings.
Shemlis Abdisa, Oromia Regional State Deputy President, speaking to state-run media said that the 7,029 prisoners were pardoned as part of the regional government’s effort to encourage reconciliation.
The Ethiopian government has been granting amnesty to prisoners over the past one year period, describing such decisions as “vital” towards national reconciliation.
