ADDIS ABABA (EI) — The Ethiopian government has announced plans to generate more than 600 million US dollars from the export of industrial products during the current 2026/27 fiscal year, which began on July 8.
The Ethiopian Ministry of Industry announced in a statement that the country aims to increase the manufacturing sector’s foreign exchange earnings from the roughly 484 million US dollars generated during the previous 2025/26 fiscal year to 600 million US dollars this budget year.
The announcement came as the ministry evaluated the sector’s annual performance over the past fiscal year alongside national targets set for the current one.
It highlighted that the country’s steadily expanding industrial sector is providing critical impetus to propel the quality, variety, and competitiveness of domestically manufactured products.
The ministry also underlined the government’s ongoing efforts to meaningfully enhance the manufacturing sector’s contribution to job creation.
As part of these efforts, the ministry outlined plans to create nearly 495,000 new manufacturing jobs during the current fiscal year, a move expected to particularly benefit the country’s burgeoning youth population.The annual target also includes significantly increasing the number of new small and medium-sized enterprises entering the manufacturing sector.
