ADDIS ABABA (EI) — The Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE) announced that its vessel, MV Gibe, has resumed sailing to Djibouti after months of being stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement, the state-owned cargo provider explained that the vessel was among several ships stuck in the strait due to heightened geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
“The Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics’ MV Gibe, which was one of the ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz for months due to the recent tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran, is now safely sailing to our neighboring port of Djibouti,” the ESLSE said.
The Ethiopian-flagged vessel is currently navigating the Gulf of Oman and is en route to ports in Djibouti.
The cargo ship is expected to arrive at its destination in the Red Sea nation of Djibouti on July 5, according to the enterprise.
“Congratulations to our heroic sailors who bravely withstood the high tension and daily threats in the Strait of Hormuz and defended your national and professional honor. Ethiopia is proud of you,” the statement read.
