ADDIS ABABA (EI) — At least nine people were killed and several others injured in a road accident in eastern Ethiopia, local authorities have confirmed.
The accident occurred on Monday in the East Hararghe zone of Ethiopia’s largest Oromia region when a container truck traveling from the country’s capital, Addis Ababa, to the eastern city of Dire Dawa lost control and struck a group of people gathered by the roadside, killing at least 9 people as several others sustained injuries, East Harerghe Zonal Police Department said in a statement late Monday.
The deadly incicdent happned on Monday in the East Harerghe Zone of Ethiopia’s largest Oromia region when a container truck traveling from the country’s capital Addis Ababa to the eastern city of Dire Dawa, lost control after encountering a brake failure, East Harerghe Zonal Police Department has said.
Local authorities said the container truck ultimately struck dozens of people who were gathered by the side of the road, eventually killing at least nine people while dozen others also sustained seriously injuries.
Police said the injured are currently receiving medical treatment at nearby health facilities.
