ADDIS ABABA (EI) — Ethiopian Airlines has disclosed an ambitious expansion plan of increasing the number of its international destinations to 243 by 2040.
The Ethiopian flag carrier currently operates 145 international destinations across five continents.
Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tassew, told state news agency ENA that the ambitious expansion plan is part of the Ethiopian flag carrier’s strategic vision aimed to achieve greater global footprint, with particular emphasis given to the African continent.
The airline, which operates 66 destinations across Africa, emphasized its “strong commitment” to further enhancing intra-African air connectivity.
The CEO said by aligning its expansion strategy to the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the airline aims to harness the power of aviation as an essential enabler for a more connected and competitive Africa.
By strengthening its continental presence and linking Africa to the rest of the world, the airline envisaged contributing to the success of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
To realize this vision, Ethiopian Airlines said it is actively pursuing partnerships with other African carriers, aiming to create a more integrated aviation network.
