ADDIS ABABA (EI) — The Ethiopian government has announced a remarkable achievement, generating over 6.7 billion USD in export revenue during the past eight months. This significant milestone has been largely driven by strong performances in key export commodities.
During a presentation of the ministry’s performance report to the House of Peoples’ Representatives, Ethiopia’s Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Kassahun Gofe, revealed that the country earned 6.76 billion USD in export revenue in the first eight months of the current Ethiopian fiscal year 2025/2026, which commenced on July 8.
In his address to parliament, Kassahun highlighted that the ministry has played a crucial role in advancing the government’s flagship initiative, “Digital Ethiopia 2030.” Over the past eight months, the ministry successfully provided more than 2.6 million online business registration and licensing services.
The trade minister noted that Ethiopia’s export revenue of 6.76 billion USD this fiscal year represents a significant increase of 2.4 billion USD compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. This growth underscores the country’s expanding trade capabilities.
Furthermore, the reported revenue exceeded the government’s initial target of 5.83 billion USD for this reporting period, demonstrating Ethiopia’s robust export potential.
Kassahun attributed this improved export performance to ongoing comprehensive economic reforms and various enabling measures implemented by the government. These initiatives have created a more conducive environment for trade and investment.
The minister identified several sectors as key drivers of Ethiopia’s export trade, including mining, agriculture, electricity, and manufacturing. Each of these sectors has contributed significantly to the overall export revenue.
As Ethiopia continues to pursue its economic development goals, the government remains committed to enhancing trade and fostering growth across various industries. This achievement marks a positive step forward for the country’s economy and its aspirations on the global stage.
