ADDIS ABABA (EI) – Ethiopian Airlines announced that it has transported nearly 125 million stems of flowers during this year’s Valentine’s season.
In a statement released on Friday, the Ethiopian flag carrier disclosed that its Cargo and Logistics Service successfully shipped a total of 7,555 tonnes of cargo during this year’s Valentine’s period, which was marked worldwide on last Saturday.
The airline said the majority of the flowers originating from East African countries.
Data from Ethiopian airlines showed that the largest share of the flowers came from Ethiopia, totaling 5,508 tonnes, followed by 1,394 tonnes from Nairobi, Kenya, and 653 tonnes from Bogota, Colombia.
Flower exports constituted the largest portion of Ethiopia’s horticulture export revenue, which reached 564.89 million USD during the 2024/2025 fiscal year, according to official data.
The Ethiopian flag carrier recently emphasized that by leveraging its network of over 70 dedicated cargo flights and more than 145 passenger-belly flights, its Cargo and Logistics Service offers comprehensive solutions for both general and specialized cargo, including horticulture commodities, with an annual handling capacity of 1 million tonnes.
