ADDIS ABABA (EI): A landslide at a traditional mine in southern Ethiopia’s Saba Boru district has killed eight people, a local official confirmed on Monday.
The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. local time in the Oromia regional state, where individuals were engaged in traditional mining activities.
Ashenafi Danko, head of the Saba Boru district communication office, stated that rescue operations are underway to recover the bodies of those buried under the collapsed area.
This tragedy follows a similar disaster in July last year, when a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in the Geze Gofa district claimed 257 lives, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by communities in the region.
