ADDIS ABABA (EI): Ahead of the Summit of the Future, the first session of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) for the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) set to review progress and gaps in implementing the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and identify actions to accelerate reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.
The PrepCom session, which is underway from July 22-26 in Addis Ababa, will feature a two-day ministerial segment, with a scene-setting panel to launch the preparations for the conference with a high level of political ambition, the Addis Ababa-based UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) disclosed in a statement.
The two-day ministerial segment will be followed by three days of multi-stakeholder roundtables, addressing all action areas of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda. These will assess progress made and spark new ideas to bridge remaining gaps in implementation.
Participation in FfD4 and its preparatory process is established by the General Assembly in its resolution 78/271 on further modalities of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.
The preparatory committee meeting kicks off the process culminating with the fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) in Spain in June-July 2025.
Among other tasks, the meeting will undertake detailed planning and preparation, initiate negotiations on the Conference’s outcome and engage with key stakeholders.
Further preparatory committee sessions are scheduled to be held in New York in December and Mexico City in February next year, it was noted.
