ADDIS ABABA, May 17 (EI) — The Eritrean government on Saturday launched random extensive COVID-19 testing as all of the 39 COVID-19 patients in the Horn of African country recovered from the infectious disease.
The Eritrean High Level Task Force for COVID-19, in a statement issued on Saturday, disclosed that the launching of random and extensive testing to gauge the spread of COVID-19 in the country in a comprehensive and more reliable manner as all 39 COVID-19 patients in the country have recovered from the virus.
“The Eritrean government has decided for the launching of random and extensive testing to gauge the spread of COVID-19 in the country in a comprehensive and more reliable manner. This endeavor is essential for the full appraisal that will be inferred from detailed and extensive data,” the Eritrean High Level Task Force for COVID-19 disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the Eritrean government, the first phase of tests will be carried out in several sections of Asmara from Sunday, 18th May onwards.
Towns and villages in border areas, as well as front-line employees in the Ministry of Health and other relevant institutions will also be part and parcel of this first phase testing, it was noted.
The Eritrean High Level Task Force for COVID-19 also disclosed that modalities for subsequent phases of testing will be determined by the outcome of the first phase as well as relevant global and regional realities and trends.
“The High Level Task Force urges all citizens to maintain the commendable role that they have played so far in the full implementation of the Guidelines, and, to rectify few breaches that have occurred intermittently until the completion of the tests for a solid appraisal of the situation with full certainty,” the statement read.
Earlier on Saturday, the Eritrean Ministry of Health has disclosed that all 39 COVID-19 patients in the country have recovered from the virus after the last patient “has recovered fully after standard tests at the National Laboratory and was released from hospital.”
“This result means that all 39 confirmed cases in the country to-date have recovered fully,” the statement from the Eritrean Ministry of Health read.
