ADDIS ABABA, May 6 (EI) — The Ethiopian Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced 17 new COVID-19 cases, marking the country’s single-largest COVID-19 cases on a single day.
The ministry, in a statement issued on Wednesday, also disclosed that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases in the country has surged to 162, following the latest announcement of 17 new positive COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours period.
According to figures from the ministry, 93 of the total 162 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered from the infectious virus, of which two of the patients have recovered during the past 24 hours period.
The latest 17 positive cases were detected after the Ethiopian Ministry of Health in partnership with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) tested some 1,382, which also set one of the highest number of tests conducted in a single day, according to the ministry.
The ministry also disclosed that from the total 162 cases, some 63 were said to be active COVID-19 cases, while none are under critical condition.
Ethiopia, which confirmed its first COVID-19 positive case on March 13, has so far reported 4 total COVID-19 inflicted deaths.
