Ethiopia’s confirmed COVID-19 cases surge to 69 amid higher recovery rates

ADDIS ABABA: April 11 (EI) — The Ethiopian Ministry of Health on Saturday disclosed that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country surged to 69 amid higher recovery rates.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement issued on Saturday, disclosed four new confirmed COVID-19 cases after the ministry together with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) conducted medical tests on 442 people over the last 24 hours.

According to the ministry, some six people who have been tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered from the virus, eventually bringing the total number of people who have recovered from the virus since Ethiopia confirmed its first case on March 13 to ten.

According to figures from the ministry, all four of the latest confirmed cases are Ethiopian nationals, two female and two male.

On Friday, Ethiopia had reported its third COVID-19 death, after a 65-years-old female Ethiopian national passed away following intensive medical support since April 4, according to the ministry.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Health had also on Friday announced the country’s single largest daily COVID-19 positive cases, with nine new confirmed positive to the coronavirus.

Figures from the ministry show that seven of the nine individuals who were tested positive on Friday were Ethiopian nationals — four males and three females, while the remaining two were said to be 20 years old female Indian national and a 40 years old male Eritrean national.

Ethiopia reported its first two COVID-19 deaths on Sunday, in which the deceased include a 60-years-old female and 56-years-old male Ethiopian, who had been undertaking treatments.
