Culinary fair presents Indonesia’s rich culture, cuisine in Addis

ADDIS ABABA: December 1 (EI) – IndoFood Culinary Fair on Saturday graced the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa with Indonesian cuisine and culinary along with moving traditional music and dancing.

The exhibition, which was held inside the premises of Indonesian Embassy in Addis Ababa, also gave fervent Ethiopian visitors an exciting experience on different assortments of Indonesian cultural values – notably the Southeast Asian nation’s delicacies as well as traditional music and dancing.

Food lovers, in particular, enjoyed the Southeast Asian country’s rich delicacies such as Bakso (Indonesian meatball soup), sate, fried rice, fried noodle, as well as various snacks like Indonesian spring roll (Lumpia), savory cake and fried banana.

The annual event also introduced unique Indonesian costumes and handicraft souvenirs, accompanied with lively traditional Indonesian dances and performance to entertain the visitors.

Visitors were also presented with a chance to have a firsthand experience of Indonesia’s rich culture and traditions, in which a handful of visitors have been awarded round air tickets to the Indonesian capital Jakarta, where they will broadly enjoy the Asian nation.

Embassy officials also told the Ethiopian Informer (EI) that the annual cultural fair is mainly intended to introduce Indonesian food, culture, and promote the country’s best cultural values and natural tourism attraction sites.

It also aspires to further deepen the two countries’ people-to-people relations, it was noted.

The event attracted more than 1000 participants mainly ex-pats, diplomatic communities, officials, business people, youths from the capital and other parts of the country.

Gelila Adamu, one of the participants in this year’s edition of the culinary fair, also expressed her excitement after experiencing some of the dazzling Indonesian cultural assortments.

“It is unusual to attend such a beautiful bazaar,” Gelila told EI, adding “It was very amazing… It helped me to know more about the Indonesian culture, as well as their spicy and delicious cuisine.”

The event was officially opened by the Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Al Busyra Basnur. Senior Ethiopian government officials were also in attendance, including Dawit Yirga, Director General of Asia and Oceania at the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), among others.
