ADDIS ABABA: October 10 (EI) – East African leaders on Thursday gathered in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to inaugurate Ethiopia’s Unity Park – an initiative Ethiopian government initiative that aimed to transform the country’s century-old National Palace into a major tourist attraction and historical monument.
Among the regional leaders gathered in Addis Ababa include the Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, Sudan’s recently appointed Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir, Somali President Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo, as well as Nabil Mohamed Ahmed, Head of Delegation of the Republic of Djibouti together with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
The regional leaders have gathered in Addis Ababa to take part in the inauguration ceremony of Ethiopia’s Unity Park, which mainly restored Ethiopia’s 130-years old National Palace, the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s Office disclosed on Thursday.
“Unity Park symbolizes our ability to come together for a common goal and cross the finish line by creating exquisite lasting prints of our collective worth,” the Office said.
According to the office, the inauguration of Unity Park is a manifestation “of the Medemer idea (an Amharic word for synergy), inviting us to takes stock of our positive capital from the past – our historical and cultural assets – and build upon it for future generations.”
The Unity Park, which is officially inaugurated on Thursday on the presence of East African leaders, is located at the heart of Addis Ababa, which is also home to the headquarters of the African Union (AU), the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) as well as various other international and regional organizations.
The assortments of attraction sites that are included inside the park are said to manifest Ethiopia’s cultural and historical records, including details of Ethiopian personalities who have led the East African country for more than a century, it was noted.
