ADDIS ABABA: October 10 (EI) – Pedestrian casualties represent more than 80 percent of traffic-related deaths in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, the city traffic administration body disclosed on Thursday.
According to the latest figures from the Addis Ababa City Traffic Management Agency, traffic accidents have killed some 456 people in Addis Ababa during the just concluded 2018-2019 Ethiopian fiscal year that ended on July 8.
More than 80 percent of the total 456 human causalities from road-side incidents during the stated period were pedestrians, the agency said.

The agency also called for concerted efforts against the mounting impact of road accident on pedestrians across the city.
According to the Ethiopian Transport Authority, Some 5,118 people were killed from traffic accidents in Ethiopia during the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
The number of people killed and the rate of accidents occurred had also registered major increases during the period.
The number of people killed increased from 4,500 to 5,118 while a record number of close to 41,000 traffic accidents were registered during the stated period, according to figures from the authority.
