The Hawassa Industrial Park, which the Ethiopian government considers as its flagship industrial park in its ambition to transform the country as the manufacturing hub of the African continent by the year 2025, was built by Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and completed in just nine months period.
Fitsum indicated that the 21 companies have already submitted their respective proposals to finalize installation of machineries within the coming year, which would see the total number of employees inside the Hawassa industrial park to reach 60,000 – a major boost from the current 27,000.
According to the general manager, in addition to the planned 60,000 direct job opportunities, the industrial park is also expected to create tens of thousands of indirect economic opportunities to the local youth.
Noting job creation as the industry park’s major aspiration, together with its aspiration to lure foreign direct investment (FDI) and technology transfer, Fitsum also emphasized the park’s indirect economic imperatives to the Hawassa city and its surroundings.
