ADDIS ABABA: Aug. 26 (EI) – The Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed left here to South Korea for a two-day official visit, where he is expected to preside multiple cooperation accords between Ethiopia and South Korea.
The Ethiopian premier, upon arrival to South Korea, also met with the President of the Export-Import Bank of the Republic of Korea (EXIM Bank), the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement issued on Monday.
The two parties also discussed ongoing and potential new support to Ethiopia, the Office said.
Recent support of 300 million U.S. dollar has been signed under the Korea-Ethiopia Economic Development Cooperation Fund for the 2019-2020 period.
The Korea Export Import Bank currently supports ongoing projects in Ethiopia exceeding 600 million U.S. dollar, it was noted.
Abiy also on Monday met with South Korean President Moon Jae In.
Following the discussion, the two countries signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on visa waiver, establishment of joint ministerial commission, environmental protection, and science and technology cooperation.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedu Andargachew, Minister of Technology and Innovation, Getahun Mekuria and State Minister of Finance, Admasu Nebebe, signed the MoUs on behalf of the Government of Ethiopia.
The Premier is currently holding talks with heads of Sumsung Group, a multinational conglomerate company.
The Ethiopian Prime Minister began his two-day official visit to South Korea today by laying a wreath at the Seoul National Cemetery reserved for Korean veterans.
