BREAKING NEWS: Coup d’etat against Amhara regional gov’t fails: official

ADDIS ABABA, June 22 (Ethiopian Informer) — An attempted coup d’etat against the Amhara regional state’s administration has failed, an Ethiopian government official said Saturday.

The statement was made by Head of the Ethiopian Prime Minister Office’s Press Secretary, Nigusu Tilahun, who disclosed the attempted coup d’etat against the regional state’s government structure.

Tilahun, speaking to state-run Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), said that the attempted “organized coup d’etat” has failed while the security situation in the regional capital Bahir Dar, some 570-km from Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, is “under control.”

However, Tilahun refrained from disclosing the exact nature of the coup d’etat, nor individuals and groups that are behind the failed attempt.

More to come as developments unfold!
