ADDIS ABABA: June 21 (Ethiopian Informer) — The governments of Ethiopian and Djiboutian on Friday reiterated their continued support to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)-led regional peace and security efforts.

Ahmed and Youssouf also recognized the Ethiopian government’s current positive involvement to the ongoing peace process in Sudan, under the umbrella of the African Union (AU) and IGAD.
Ethiopia has been among the major mediator in bringing the disputing Sudanese factions, who have recently agreed to uphold previous agreements regarding the structures, powers and responsibilities of the transitional government with the support of Ethiopia’s mediation effort.
Ahmed and Youssouf, who emphasized “the strong relationship between Ethiopia and Djibouti,” also discussed bilateral issues, including accelerating economic relations between the two countries as well as strengthening social and cultural relations, the office said.
Ethiopia and Djibouti, who have enjoyed strong socioeconomic integration over the years, have arguably a well-developed bilateral diplomatic cooperation, supported by Djibouti’s geopolitical importance to landlocked Ethiopia’s import-export needs.
The Djibouti port presently handles about 95 percent of landlocked Ethiopia’s export-import trade, according to the Ethiopian government.
