ADDIS ABABA: May 22 (Ethiopian Informer) – The Ethiopian Ministry of Transport on Wednesday revealed plan to invest in cable transport, with particular emphasis given to its potential in urban areas.
The news came following an interest from a foreign company, Sky Way Investment Group (SWIG), which recently presented its plan to construct a cable transport system in Ethiopia, according to the ministry.
Sky Way Investment Group, a railway construction company based in Belarus, also said in a statement that cable-transportation system would be an ideal solution to congestion in urban areas in Ethiopia as it completely rules out the use of land and tunnel transportation facilities.
Cable transport is also said to be more convenient in the capital Addis Ababa, as the city encounters growing traffic congestion in recent years particularly across roads connecting Bole International Airport.
